EASTERN BATIRA
The two easternmost points of the Broken Fingers mountain range protect an area of great rivers and lush forests, bordered in the south and east by the Sea of Fire. There were no human settlements here before the kingdom of Batira was settled, though the mountains and forests were dotted with towns and fortresses of elves, halflings and dwarves, as well as goblins, orcs and ogres. Most of those that lay within the modern borders of Bastion have long since been driven away or destroyed by encroaching humans, but there are still wild reaches in the hills and forests that remain somewhat unexplored. As well, the lands north of the Silver Serpent are almost completely untouched by modern man and are known to contain enormous beasts and vast tribes of warring humanoids.
COUNTRIES IN EASTERN BATIRA
BASTION
The easternmost country of Batira continent is Bastion. Founded over 700 years ago by settlers fleeing the war-torn countries across the Broken Fingers. They found a route around the southern tip of the mountains into the wooded plains of this land, and named their first settlement after the leader of this expedition - Rowan's Crossing. It remains the largest city in Bastion and both a centre of trade with the old world and a line of defense against invasion. The coat-of-arms of Bastion is the symbol of a steel shield with a yellow crescent moon in the center of it. Between the points of the crescent moon is a belt of 5 stars. If on a flag or a tabard, the background is sometimes colored at least partially to indicate which of the three major cities it originated in or owes fealty to (bright blue for Linvers, deep red for Rowan's Crossing, and emerald green for the capital of Lankton). |
THE NORTHERN WILDLANDS
This blanket name was given to all the lands north of the Silver Serpent river until Lacertus declared it's independence. The Wildlands have no ruler and very few towns of any size, as must are overrun by marauding humanoids within their first few years. The Northern Wildlands are very rich in resources, especially timber and game, but there is nowhere else on Batira which such a vast number of warlike humanoid tribes. They prey on anyone to be found in the north. |
LACERTUS
The lands of the Warrior King, Tarius. Lies east of the Roaring Water and stretching to the ocean. His soldiers the Redblades are considered perhaps the fiercest army on all of Batira. |
LANDMARKS
The Roaring Water - the river that forms the western border of the kingdom of Lacertus, the lands of the Warrior King. It is a large and swift moving river, hundreds of feet wide in places with many rapids along it's length. It begins in the northern mountains and travels south in a mostly straight path. The Roaring Water is full of rapids and small waterfalls, especially all through it's path into the Deeping Rock, at the end of which it falls hundreds of feet into Claybottom Lake.
Silver Serpent - the vast river forming the border between Bastion to the south and the Northern Wildlands to the north, and emptying into Claybottom Lake. There are very few spots along the river that are less than a mile in width and it was long thought to be impossible to cross. It is fast moving but without any major rapids or waterfalls except at it's mouth in the foothills of the Broken Fingers.
The Deeping Rock - a canyon forged where the Roaring Water cuts through the rocky badlands of southern Lacertus. There are countless caves and crevaces in the canyon that are rumored to be home to all manner of humanoids, giants, and enormous lizards.
